Wow, it has been a REALLY long time since I've written anything here. So much has happened.
The biggest news is that I got divorced. It was utterly devastating, but I'm finally to a point where I recognize that I wasn't living my best life. I'm optimistic that I will find a healthier relationship that will endure. In the meantime, dating is hella time consuming, yo. I can't even believe how much of my emotional energy it's taking. Much more on this if I decide to keep writing here.
Once I finished grad school, I found I didn't have as much to say here. So much of the angst dissipated that I didn't need the outlet. However, blogging was SO helpful to me back then, and I'm finding that I'm really struggling now to keep the work balls in the air while pursuing a really active social life. This blog keeps popping in my head, and so I thought I might drop some thoughts here to help me get my productivity back on track.
Despite not commenting, I have actually been keeping up with many of my old favorite blogs. I hope to connect with some old friends and perhaps make some new ones!
BTW, what are people using when Reader goes away?

Happy to have you back! Sucks about the divorce but I'm glad you've moved on and are in a positive space. Have no idea what to do without reader
Glad to see you back here, and also glad to hear you're more positive post divorce. I'm stuck about reader as well. Hope you find this space useful again.
Yay, good to have you back, although sorry to hear about the divorce. No idea how you manage an active social life and work! Work is all the people-interaction I can take most weeks....
No good solutions to Reader yet...it's going to be awful without it.
I'm glad to have you back! I'm so sorry about the divorce, but I'm glad that you are able to look at it in a more positive light. I have no idea about Reader, either. I might check out feedly, but I've heard mixed things about it.
Sorry to hear about the divorce, but glad you're in a positive place with it now. I'm using Feedler on my iPad and like it. I've heard they are trying to have one out for computers soon, so I keep waiting on that.
Hope to see you around more!
woho, back here. Sorry to hear about divorce. I had similar feelings as you write, it was tough going through but there is light in the end of the tunnel
(and yes, dating takes time and is tireing.... but could be fun too)
As for reader - I have nothing useful as alternative :(
Good to hear your voice on here again! I'm so sorry about your divorce---I hope time and healing bring you peace.
I am, likewise, sorry that a divorce was necessary in your life but I do hope the social whirl has some positives to it!
I also find I write more, and better, when I'm unhappy.
Also sorry about the divorce - mine was the best thing that has ever happened to me - also no clue about Reader. I'm in denial...
First and foremost, I'm so glad to see you're back! I'm so sorry to hear about the divorce, but glad to hear you're feeling more positive about life. No matter the situation, it's always hard to end a relationship.
I'm using The Old Reader - it's web-based and looks the most like Google Reader all of all the possible replacements I've checked out. http://theoldreader.com/
Welcome back and I'm sorry to hear about the divorce. I just resumed blogging a few days ago myself. Maybe it's blogging revival time. Regarding the reader, I moved everything to bloglines last week and am happy with the change.
It's great to see you back! Like everyone else, I'm sorry to hear about your divorce, but glad that you now seem to be in a better place.
No suggestions about the reader, I've been a lazy blogger and commenter myself...
Dude! You're back!
The divorce process must have been awful, but it sounds like you're starting to come through to the other side - the optimistic one. The very best of luck with the dating and career and general life stuff!
I am seriously pissed off about Reader, to the extent that my cat (originally called Google) is now officially called Schmoogie (her nickname, which she was already answering to). I tried Feedly for a while, but it just didn't feel right (plus I couldn't figure out any way to sort my folders and feeds within folders alphabetically, which was super annoying. I did NOT create a folder called "A1 events" so that I could start missing out on fun science stuff around town again!).
So, a few months ago, I started paying to use NewsBlur instead. Paying for something I'm used to getting for free felt really ridiculously stupid at first, but it's not that much, and I've come to absolutely love the service to the extent that I'm happy to pay. The import of all my folders and feeds from Reader was fine, and there are some really nice features. The iPhone / iPad apps are also much better than anything I was using before.
Also glad to see you back here! I am glad that you were able to figure out that your marriage was not working for you relatively early on. My parents divorced after 36 years of marriage -- it is something I really cannot wrap my head around. But, they are both definitely happier, and I wish that like you, they had figured it out quicker and had more time happy in their lives.
Like you, I have seriously neglected my blog. For me, I just can't think of anything to say. My work is pretty unbloggable (going just fine, but not fit for reporting to the whole internet), and that is the majority of what occupies my time, so not much to say.
As for a reader replacement, I got nothing for you.
Hiya! Glad to hear from you, hope life is going forward well (sounds like it).
Investigating feedly and The Old Reader (kinda trying both and seeing which one I like).
Good to hear from you! I'm sorry to hear about your divorce, but it sounds like it was the right thing to do for you. Best of luck in everything--it's amazing how much changes in a year, isn't it? I'm happy to listen to whatever you have to say here. No, I don't have any alternatives to Google Reader; I just look at other's people's blogrolls for updates!
welcome back!! so excited to see you in my reader! (i changed blogs so you likely don't recognize me...) anyway, glad to hear things are moving forward well.
btw, i use netvibes. not completely happy with it...
