Instead of buying each other Christmas presents, Ecogeoman and I decided to get a Wii. We'd been wanting one for quite a while -- I wanted it to play games and EGM wanted it to watch instant Netflix movies. I love it!
We've already watched a bunch of movies. That's great because we've been paying for Netflix for ages without actually exchanging many movies. The selection of instant movies is disappointing, but I'm confident that they will be adding lots more soon since they seem to be really pushing the streaming format.
Playing games is fantastic too! We got Just Dance 2 for Christmas from my mom and it is fun fun fun! There's a really diverse selection of good songs and the choreography is mostly pretty easy to follow, plus it's a great workout. We got a Zumba game as well, but I haven't tried that for more than a few minutes yet (Just Dance is too much fun). EGM and I have also had fun playing the basic sports games too.
I'm so glad we got the Wii instead of stressing about shopping for surprise gifts. I really hope we continue to use it as much as we have been this last week.

Loooooove my wii! Be sure to populate your queue with instant watch stuff, otherwise I think only some of the instant watch stuff shows up. The browse on the Wii sucks, but if you browse on your laptop, it isn't terrible. Especially for TV.
Fun! DH got me a Wii a couple years ago for Christmas. I should start using it more again!
I just tried the Zumba game and it was great!
UR, I too have noticed that navigating the Netlix menus on the Wii sucks. I didn't realize that not everything would show up there, though. Thanks for the tip!
Alyssa, I was thinking it might be a good way to meet your move more with Evan resolution. :)
Awesome! I love my Wii!
Yay! I'm glad you got such a great gift!
I love playing Wii at my sister-in-law's place when we stay. Beatles Rock Band and the sports resort archery/canoeing/cycling are favourites, but it's all good! I might look for a second hand one once the next generation comes out!
The Wii is great for catching up on some television shows. For example the first couple years of Dexter, and the first couple of seasons of Battlestar Galactica (sans the first two episodes).
There are some really good games on the Wii, and the Wii store has some great classics as well (Donkey Kong, Super Mario Kart, etc). It's a console where you can have fun without paying too much!
The gift that keeps on giving! Definitely agree with Thomas Joseph: you can download old-school games like Super Mario Brothers and Pacman and play it with your Wii remote-very cool! Also, recommend Wii Tennis (a real workout!), Tiger Woods Golf (surprising realistic sensitivity) and my favorite: Beatles' Rockband. Have fun!
Hmm, sounds like I should check out Beatles' Rockband. The old school games would be great too! I was also really impressed with my mom's Fit. She likes the workouts, but I thought the balance-related games were really fun. Any new games will have to wait a little while though till our budget recovers. Maybe we can put some on our wedding registry?
