Random bullets of barbecue beef steak stew

  • Apparently Ecogeoman has the series of words, "barbecue beef steak stew" stuck in his head, along with "love fish", which we often call each other. I hate getting words stuck in my head. It's worse than having a song on repeat up there.
  • Do you think that if I become a famous scientist, they will cast me in Dancing with the Stars?
  • I taught myself a new statistical technique last week, but I was using some non-standard software, and I wasn't totally sure I was doing it right/meeting all the assumptions. Today someone who is expert at this technique generously spent a couple of hours teaching me the appropriate program and how to manipulate the data. It confirmed that I pretty much understood what I had learned on my own, and enhanced my understanding dramatically.
  • There are two jobs advertised at a university in Far Off Land: one in my field and one in EGM's area. It is stunning that there is a job available for each of us at the same time at the same place, especially in FOL. They are at a level somewhat above our experience, so I think it's a long shot, but we have to apply. I wish applying for my first real job didn't coincide with the hot-and-heavy writing of my diss.

That would be fantastic if they put a famous scientist on Dancing with the Stars.

Also, that would be really awesome if you and EGM got positions in his home country! Good luck with your applications.

Good luck with the applications! That sounds like an awesome opportunity.

I'd like to see a scientist on Dancing with the Stars. I think you should be the first! (I mean, your famous in our corner of the blogosphere so that should count for something!)

And I mean you're famous, not your famous. Apparently, I need more coffee.

Hey, Tom DeLay was on Dancing with the Stars - why not you?

Good luck with the job apps!

Either that or the universe is arranging itself to your advantage. Go for it!

Your first bullet reminded me of one of the funniest blog posts I have ever read. I don't seem to get words and phrases stuck in my head, but songs are bad enough. Just read the first half of this post, down to "Celine Dion-esque proportions."

Lockwood, that post was pretty funny.

Cath, I'm pretty sure that's what EGM thinks, although he's not saying it quite like that. Can you imagine what we'd be saying if we were very religious? :)

Thanks for the positive thoughts, All. I'm assuming many of you have figured out what country FOL is. Anybody have any recent experience in the academic system there?

Also, thanks for your confidence wrt Dancing with the Stars! Perhaps there should be a scientist version? That would undoubtedly be hot. Oh, and I didn't get to see Tom DeLay dance, but I think it's a hoot that he's on the show.
