All the cool kids are doing this meme, but I've been resisting because I don't have an iPod. I broke down today when
CAE specifically tagged me to do it. I figured I could make do by leafing through my old-school travel cd case to list the 25 songs I've listened to the most lately. Unfortunately, I pretty much only listen to 2 or 3 cds, so I tired to come up with songs I really like even if they're not in regular rotation. Even that didn't get me to 25, so I took a trip down memory lane to fill in the list with favorite songs from throughout my life. I think I need to cut back on the NPR.
Step 1: Put your MP3 player or whatever on random.
Step 2: Post the first line from the first 25 songs that play, no matter how embarrassing the song.
Step 3: Post and let everyone you know guess what song and artist the lines come from.
Step 4: Strike through when someone gets them right.
Step 5: Looking them up on Google or any other search engine is CHEATING.
Bonus points if you can pick out the two songs from the cds I have on repeat. More bonus points if you can identify what was my first favorite song.

Oh and dude, you are my hero for #20 PUSSY CONTROL by Prince.
#13 is Cake, The Distance
#14 is Queen, Killer Queen
#16 is Len, Don't Steal my Sunshine
#22 is Pearl Jam, Jeremy
#25 is Sublime, What I Got (it was on my list, too!)
I can't do the meme, but only because my iPod is so rarely used. In a world of noise, I relish the quiet. And I truly do hate ear buds. But I do like your blog; does that count?
All correct!
DF, correct - 19. is 311 but I'll wait to cross it out until there's the title.
Arduous, I always request Pussy Control when I go out dancing (which is super rare these days). Love it.
Addy N, I looked at your list earlier and didn't recognize the Sublime song. I did the same thing at cae's.
Belle, thanks! I don't even have an ipod, and I hate having things in my ears so I'm sure I wouldn't like earbuds. But I do listen to music, mostly in the lab and car. I can understand liking quiet, though.
Is #12 You Oughta Know by Alanis Morisette?
#18 is Praise You by Fatboy Slim (also on my list!)
#10 - Sunshine Superman by Donovan
#15 - Aqualung by Jethro Tull
#24 Horse with No Name by - uh - America
Very good SF! Given that you got those ones, I'm surprised you didn't get #11...
1. They might be giants, I palindrome I.
#11, Battle of Evermore, but I can't remember who and it's driving me f'ing crazy!
#21 The chain by Fleetwood Mac
sciencemama, I'll give it to you. Led Zeppelin, but the Lovemongers (formerly Heart) made a beautiful version of it more recently. Their version is on the Singles soundtrack.
I think that # 4 is by Talking Heads - actually I'm pretty sure about that - but I can't remember the name of the song! (and I refuse to cheat by going to google). Maybe the name of the song will come to me throughout the day ... WAIT! I remember - Wild Wild Life by Talking Heads!
#2 is Take Your Mama, by the Scissor Sisters. Awesome band.
Also, hello! I found your blog recently, and it's interesting to hear from a grad student in science. I'm currently doing synthetic chemistry in industry (BS entry level, graduated last year) and am thinking about options from here.
welcome, quartzpebble! There are lots of science blogs around that might help give you an idea of your options, at least in academia (check out my blogroll to start). Don't hesitate to email questions, too. Good luck!
