Book Swap
We had a little book swap at work today. Awesome Technician and I were chatting about having books to get rid of, so we decided to organize a little exchange. All it took was putting out a sign in the common space near the microwave and people brought it novels and such they were finished with. Some people forgot or didn't see the sign, but seemed interested in the pile. There were still many books left when I left, but I think some folks who didn't bring any were waiting till the end of the day to take books out of curtesy to the people who contibuted. Hopefully more will be gone by tomorrow, but we'll take whatever is left to a second hand bookstore. I think we'll do it again in 6 months or so to include more people.

That's a great idea! I recently had a clothing exchange but I haven't thought of doing a book exchange. The clothing exchange was a success- my couch and table were completely covered in clothes and everyone who came went home with something 'new.' After a couple more people picked through the pile I took it to Goodwill. The next week I recognized one of the items on the rack!
Good idea! I've done a lot of one-sided exchanges in the last week. They go something like this:
Me: Hey, want any of this?
Coworker: Um....sure.
Me: Super! Take this stuff, too!
What a neat idea!! I should do that at my work.
That sounds like a lot of fun! I love books.
I love having work as a place to "donate" your unwanted items and I've also scored some cool things off the free table at work.
Great idea! Our building has a whole bookcase in the lunch room of books that people have finished with. They're mostly rubbish, but I've read some good ones from that source!
We decided to make it sort of permanant. We're going to dedicate a shelf near the microwave to donated books and magazines that people can add to or take from any time. I'm especially pleased to have a place to pass on magazines because it sucks to dump a 200 page fashion mag after the 45 min it takes to read it cover to cover. There are occasional book drives sponsered by different groups at my work, so I think we'll be able to clear it out periodically if the selection gets stale.
Karina, I went to a clothing exchange recently and it was awesome! It was my first one, so I was surprised by how little size seemed to matter. I came away with a bunch of great sweaters.
Love that idea! I've swapped books with individual people before, but have never organized an "official" book swap at work.
That's a great idea! I regularly swap books with friends and family but never in any sort of organized way.
