Facebook?

I just joined 2006 and created a Facbook profile. I don't really get it. I've been on MySpace for a while, and I don't really get that either. What am I supposed to do with it?

Give it time. I mocked it initially; now I'm giving it up for Lent (I'm half-kidding).

Seriously, I've had a lot of fun getting back in touch with college friends and high school friends, not to mention keeping up with people I meet at conferences.

That's what I do too, though now facebook is getting sued for that application, so who knows how long it will be on there.

I don't get it either, so I also asked on my blog about 2 months ago. Thing is, I don't ever want to get started with scrabble because of the major time suck it must be, so I still really don't get it.

I signed up for Myspace to recruit rugby players. That never worked but what it did do was help with my addiction to the internet and added another way to pass time when I should be working. I finally decided that although I had "friends" from people I knew in high school and other long lost friends really the only people I commented with where people I saw regularly or who would e-mail me anyway. So I deemed it a waste of time and dumped it a few months back. Felt really good but actually since there has been one or two people I wish I could send a message to but I have their phone numbers and should just call them.
But they are cool network sites for those who can moderate their time on them.

I don't even like scrabble that much -- I really wouldn't want to take up lots of time playing it online regularly.

I was able to find out about some old friends and my high school reunion on myspace, but the novelty has worn off. Maybe if I had a job in a cube where I wanted to do a lot of goofing around, I would spend time on these networking sites. As it is, blogging sucks enough time.

I'm not a big fan either. I have an account, but I only access it if someone send me a message, or something like that. I have very few "friends' on facebook. It's just not my thing.

All I do with mine is to respond if someone adds me as a friend. Then I email them and let them know that if they want to get in touch, they should just email me. This approach has been referred to as "old school".

Yes, email is old school now.

I just got an invitation to join from a friend who is about to retire - that made me feel a little behind the times. But I stick to my decision to resist it. It would be a waste of time I cannot afford, and those who I want to talk to know how to get a hold of me without it.
