I'm not sure if it's common. Personally, I sort of straddle two fields, one that is historically male and one that is not so much. Certainly the department currently has MANY more men than women.
The department had a search three years ago that had 5 men and 2 women. A simultaneous search for a chair had no women.

That's more than encouraging, that's awesome! Is this ratio quite common in your field?
That's really great! We had a faculty search last year in my dept and there were no female candidates. But your news gives me hope :-)
