I got my hair cut tonight. It was well below my shoulders and now it's at my chin, complete with new bangs. Like
sciencemama, I like how the bangs look, but I'm worried about their maintenance costs. Anyway, it had been over 8 months since I had my hair cut (and I don't even have a baby), so anything is an improvement. It a really cute cut, actually, but more work than a ponytail.

too bad we can't see it! Bangs? I wish I was that brave. :)
I understand!! I am down to getting my hair cut twice a year, since I started grad school. One time it was only once in an entire calendar year. How sad is that??
Fun!! I love drastic changes. I grew my hair really long last year so I could have it up at my wedding, then got most of it cut off when I got back from honeymoon. It felt sooooo much better, and I love seeing that big pile of hair on the floor at the end.
No bangs for me though - my hair's too curly. I'd look like a poodle. My sister had bangs once and tried to straighten them, which led to her getting her bangs caught in a car door.
I didn't laugh. We don't still remind her about it.
After a long field season and my wedding, getting bangs was my drastic change in hair. I love them. The upkeep isn't too bad for the longer, sweepy bangs (I've only gotten 1 haircut since August). They just sweep a little more as they grow.
Aw man, I want a haircut. But I am also lazy. So I'll probably just keep my unkempt ponytail.
Yay for a cute cut! (I've been sticking with the ponytail people for ... over a decade now?)
I only had one haircut in 2007. I figured I would let the bangs gracefully grow out before my next haircut in say, october, but once I learned that the salon gives free bang trims, I decided I might be able to keep up with this style. Dancingfish, you've given me confidence.
Cae, I can't imagine how bangs could get caught in a car door, but I'll go with it. My hair is stick straight and super fine, so I have to worry more about my bangs looking greasy than poodle-like.
I used to change my hair really often, but it was always pretty short. I finally got too busy and too broke to get it cut frequently enough to keep a short style, so I grew it long. We'll see how I do this time.

Trust me, it's possible. My sister and I were both in denial about our curly hair when we were younger and tried to keep it straight, resulting in horrific frizzy bushiness. I ended up having mine cut really really short. She went with bangs because all her friends had them and looked, well, not as good as she does now with her tight natural ringlets.
CAE, this is too funny! My mom spent a good portion of my teenage years trying to figure out how to curl my super straight and superfine hair (I am not nearly patient to try to do this myself, so once I moved out, my hair was given a rest). But why is the grass always greener on the other side?
Ecogeofemme, it sounds like your hair is similar to mine. Do you ever curl it?
sciencegirl, I got my hair permed from ages 16-20. It was a "body perm" which meant that it helped my hair hold the waves I put in it every day with a curling iron.
Now I've petty much come to terms with the fact that I have the hair of a two-year-old child. I still fantasize about thick waves, but when I see my friends with curly hair straightening it, I realize I should just be happy with what I have. It could be worse. I normally don't put much work into it at all, but on the occasion that I want to look nice I've learned that I need a lot more product than I think.
